Our History
In 1992 Manes Wiezel founded City Glatt with his son Betzalel Vizel & son-in-law Levi Safran, a small retail kosher butcher shop in Los Angeles, CA, which soon grew into three stores.  In addition to serving their retail clientele, City Glatt began developing a wholesale distribution venture. By 1999 Wiezel sold his retail business, moved his company into a state-of-the-art 30,000 sq. foot facility and devoted full attention to the development of a kosher wholesale distribution and importing company on the West Coast.  

From the beginning to this day, City Glatt’s guiding standard has been to improve the selection and quality of kosher products. To that end we have worked diligently to develop new products.  We are a master importer and distributor of brands from the US, Israel and around the world, including wines, meat, fish, confection, frozen, dairy and dry grocery products.  In addition, we are a major distributor of Aaron’s Rubashkins Glatt Kosher meat products on the West Coast, servicing independent retailers in California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon and Washington with our new fleet of eight state-of-the-art refrigerated trucks.

In the spring of 2000 City Glatt created the TZALI’S FOOD & WINE GROUP.  Through a network of wholesale distributors and brokers we have expanded the TZALI’S brand international distribution in both the mainstream and ethnic kosher markets.  The TZALI'S FOOD GROUP distributes many products under the TZALI’S brand, including gefilte fish, deli salads, sweet wines, and grape juice. In July 2004 we launched a full line of frozen Appetizers from Israel, with more to come

In January of 2002 the new TZALI’S WINE GROUP was formed under the guidance of Stephen Anchin.  As Director of the Wine Division, he brings to the TZALI’S WINE GROUP over 30 years experience at all levels of the Wine and Spirits Industry, ranging from retail through wholesale and importer levels.  A nationally recognized innovator of the modern kosher wine niche, Anchin believes, "The time is ripe for wines made anywhere in the world under kosher supervision to be judged on the same level of quality as any other wines. This is our goal".

 
In October of 2002 Gregory Nathanson joined the City Glatt management team as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for the TZALI'S FOOD & WINE GROUP.  He brings over 20 years experience in the specialty and kosher food industry to the company.  He is responsible for our entire sales & marketing efforts on a national basis overseeing our wholesaler network. Said Nathanson, “Our goal is to produce, import and market unique quality and value oriented foods and wines, initiating a new level of marketing to both the Ethnic, Kosher and Mainstream markets.”   Nathanson and Anchin have built a national sales team with over 35 years of sales experience in the wine industry: Mike Greenfeld – South Eastern Regional, Andrea Bloom - Western Regional and Zvi Bornstein - Eastern Field Manager.

The TZALI’S WINE GROUP imports a wide selection of international wines. All our wines are hand-crafted, estate bottled, small batch productions.  We import from Australia, Argentina Chile, Italy, Spain and in Israel we have partnered with the Efrat Winery bringing the Ninve line, New ISRAELI Series and Tzali’s brand of sweet wines.  All produce exceptional wines of the highest quality and value.  All are located in some of the finest wine regions in the world. 

In thirteen short years City Glatt’s TZALI’S FOOD AND WINE GROUP has grown into a major innovative force in the kosher & ethnic food and wine industry easily crossing into the American mainstream market.
